Going Places: Frequently Asked Questions

Darebin's Travel Rewards Scheme.

Need to know something about Going Places – Darebin’s Travel Rewards Scheme? You’ll find the most frequently asked questions here:

  1. Who is eligible to register for Going Places?

You must be a resident of Darebin or work at a Darebin based business, 18 years or over with a drivers licence and have at least one car in your household.

  1. What if I don't have a car or I can't replace any more car trips?

If you fit this category, you are eligible for the Sustainable Traveller Register. By signing up to Sustainable Traveller Register you are commiting to continue to have a very low number of car trips and/or not purchase a car. Basically you're going to 'go green' whenever and however you can.

  1. I'm eligible for Going Places, how do I earn points?

Registered participants pledge to take at least two-less drive alone trips per week. This means just substitute two trips per week that you would've usually done alone in a car with a sustainable transport trip - walk, cycle, take public transport or share a ride in a car. When you’ve fulfilled your pledge you log in to the Going Places website using your username and password and tell us where, when and how you did the two trips that you would’ve normally taken the car for.

For example, on Saturday mornings you may have always taken the car to the supermarket for groceries. This week you decided to walk instead. The journey to the supermarket counts as one-less drive alone trip and the journey home counts as the second-less drive alone trip for the week. Easy!

Another example may be on Wednesdays you now give your work colleague Tom, who lives in the same suburb as you, a lift to work. What used to be a drive alone trip is now a carpooling trip. Easy!

If you work in Darebin, you are only able to log the trip to/from work to earn points.

  1. What do I get if I sign up to Sustainable Traveller Register?

You are eligible to use the GP Club Card (which will be sent to you) to receive discounts at local traders and services as well as attend any GP members events. Go to the GP Club Card pages to see what great offers are available now!

  1. How do I get rewards?

When you log your trips on the Going Places website your points accumulate. As they accumulate you’ll be eligible for rewards which will be recognised by the system. Your homepage will display the rewards you’ve already earned and those rewards you are still aiming towards.

  1. Where do I pick up my rewards?

Rewards will be available from Darebin’s four customer service centres. The location and opening times of these centres are available from the Darebin Council website Staff at these centres will have a record of how many points you’ve earned and what you are eligible for. Just bring in your GP Club Card  and tell them you're there to collect your Going Places reward! Please wait for at least a week after earning your reward before coming to claim it at a customer service centre - that way we'll be sure to have it ready for you

  1. Why is the City of Darebin doing an initiative such as this?

The City of Darebin is committed to promoting alternative transport methods. Along with most middle Melbourne Councils, Darebin is experiencing worsening traffic congestion, volumes of traffic and truck movement. Darebin is well serviced by public transport and is easily covered by cycling or walking. We believe there is the need for both carrots (incentives) and sticks (disincentives) to persuade residents and visitors alike to use their private vehicles less. Going Places forms part of the carrots on offer to residents.
